KEY CHALLENGES

  • Visibility of the entire IT infrastructure and end-user endpoints in a centralized manner
  • Verify proper functioning of IT systems and delivery of service
  • Standardize IT environment, improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Context

The Ministry of Health is the main industry regulator and healthcare services provider in the United Arab Emirates. Responsible for delivering a cost-effective and world-class standard of healthcare to over 9 million residents, the Ministry of Health is committed to building and improving healthcare infrastructure, expertise and services to fulfill the growing needs and expectations of both the population and healthcare professionals.

The healthcare industry faces significant pressures relating to cost, regulations, quality, accountability, and the integration of disparate information and communication technologies (ICTs). In support of the UAE government’s strategy to increase effectiveness and efficiency while improving the quality of services provided to the population, the Ministry of Health embraces the latest technologies in delivering a range of innovative healthcare services. The Smart Patient Portal and e-Services improve the coordination and delivery of data to save time and ensure the continuity of healthcare services provided. Patients and healthcare providers can quickly and easily access a variety of information and services available from the Ministry of Health without leaving their home or office.

    Challenge

The Ministry of Health has a highly complex IT infrastructure comprised of 10,000 end-users in over 40 sites (administrative facilities, hospitals, clinics and prime medical centers) throughout the UAE. The IT department is responsible for delivering software and services to end-users that enable them to do their jobs and in turn, better support healthcare providers and patients. Critical applications include the Microsoft ERP system and healthcare applications integrated into the Smart Patient Portal and e-Services.

“We are continually evolving our IT environment to improve the quality of healthcare services delivered to the population every day. Our end-users need access to the healthcare information system at all times to ensure the best patient care. We were looking for a solution that could provide visibility to help us verify the proper functioning of our IT system.”

IT Director, Ministry of Health, UAE

Surging economic growth and development in recent years has resulted in an increasing workforce in the UAE. The Ministry of Health must continually evolve to support the evolving healthcare needs of the population. With a large number of end-users working in disparate facilities, managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure was a challenge. A government entity, the Ministry of Health has a policy to minimize the number of solutions and technologies used to save costs and resources. To standardize its IT environment, a solution was needed that could provide visibility of the entire IT infrastructure and end-user endpoints in a centralized manner.

    Choosing Nexthink

After a presentation and a demonstration from its trusted partner Emitac Enterprise Solutions, the Ministry of Health selected the Nexthink end-user IT analytics solution. The IT team immediately saw the benefits that IT analytics could bring in terms of understanding more about the IT services used in their environment (endpoints, software, and printers) and how the infrastructure is operating in real-time, from the end-user perspective. The Ministry of Health needs complete and comprehensive visibility of the IT infrastructure to make business decisions based on accurate data and to ensure the delivery of healthcare services. Nexthink’s real-time IT analytics in the form of reports and dashboards provide essential visibility and insight for IT governance and compliance. This enables the IT team to precisely measure the effectiveness of IT operations, support, and security from the end-user perspective.

“IT analytics have greatly helped us implement standardization in our environment. We are now able to accurately monitor our assets and understand how they are utilized in real-time. This has led to significant cost savings related to bandwidth, software and hardware.”
